Ayurveda and Cooking
Vata
On the doshas page we mentioned the qualities of Vata to be light, dry,
cold, and rough. Therefore, your diet should include foods that are liquid
or unctuous to balance dryness, some "heavy" foods to balance
the "light" quality, foods that are smooth in texture to offset
roughness, and foods that are warm or hot to balance the cool nature of
Vata. You may use the chart below as a guide in terms of foods you should
choose and foods that you may want to stay away from. This is just a start. I
recommmend that you look at Amadea
Morningstar books.
I highly recommend "Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners" which
I find to be the best book for our Western culture on cooking.
